Re: password management, your example of a password "Roundabout#051324." Yes, you're a fan of roundabouts. Yet the Boomer overwatch report suggests that sample password refers to the song _Roundabout_ by prog rock band Yes from the album "Fragile." [ok boomer]. [edit] About Apple's new thinner & lighter tablet. Gotta hand it to Apple, whether it's the newest iPhone or iPad, they do indeed sell you a badass chip. I assume that sub-10 nanometer chip is the most expensive component in the phone/tablet. Speaking of phones and tablets.... Tablets are shrinking in overall height (thickness when sitting on a table top) and weight. Hmmm.... that makes me wonder how soon in the future will the newest iPhone and newest iPad end up being the same size? Not all iPhones of that future year, of course. It'll be the ultra super max version of the phone and the mini travel sized version of the tablet. Yet I do hope one day those two products will have versions that are the same size.

File naming (sorting, stacking) - now you're speaking my language. I'm a big fan of naming folders, folders within folders, and files therein so they stack like I want. (Read: stack as they should.) Most often stack by date, so the filename has to have the date in the filename AND the filename has to be the _same_ except for the date. Then I sort of go off the rails. To sort by date I use the date format yyyy.mm.dd. Before that I used mm-dd-yyyy and if that file is used into the next year or several, they stack by month and the years are scattered in the stack ... not what I want. TL;DR Yet when its a pile of different work documents that I'll be returning to -- redesigning training content, revising a manual, different fiscal years of Excel files already well constructed yet the names, districts/locations, etc will change over time, I really want to know which file is the latest one. 4-digit year, leading zero month, leading zero date makes that most current one always appear as the last file of that name (as long as the folder sorts by name instead of some other sorting scheme). i do the same thing on my phone for files there. If the file has several variants, they stack by date. For pics I just worry about the year as a subcategory of folders for family, friends, or interests. Anyway, like you said there is no right or wrong way as long as you know it and it meets your needs. FWIW I have a folder of LOL memes with subtopic folders in there. One of those LOL subfolders is about Apple products, almost About the iPhone (e.g. what a possible iPhone 20, 40, 50 will look like.) And I do wonder when the larger and larger iPhone Plus will be the same size as smaller and smaller iPad tablets. Maybe they'll cross each other as one shrinks and the other balloons.

As an old fart I had to chuckle at what you said about computers setup for single jobs 1x per week at your church: "...We set them up to work and don’t ever touch them until we absolutely have to. I mean ever. Like fighting words - ever." HAH! Mr WW, for a Gen X guy that sounds kinda boomer. Well, OK boomer.

re: Incognito mode/InPrivate mode. The saying goes, "you can run but you can't hide." Given that, sounds like we can hide but we cannot run. Surprise - you can't hide after all. Wonderful. Like you said, not surprising. Still, it's disappointing. And I say that from behind a VPN. [edit] TL;DR China introduces an EV selling for around 10K USD. Personally I'm not worried about China selling those in the US. They may try to do so, yet will probably (read: very likely) run into a tariff as a trade barrier. China will be attempting to sell all sorts of products in the US and EU in the near future, moreso than the last few years, IMO. Why? Domestic auto sales are a good indicator of health in that domestic economy since industrial & manufacturing "health" is baked into a domestic auto market. Yeah, so what? Domestic auto sales in China began to drop, noticeably drop, before covid. Saying that again, *before covid* China's domestic auto market started slumping. And has not recovered post-covid, even though China's post-covid timeframe ended later than the EU and the US. IOW, the continued slump in domestic auto sales in China is not a covid slump that's just about to end IMO. Put another way, China will be happy to dump products, including EVs, on Europe and the US to "bend the curve" [ahem] of slumping auto sales. That's where I think it is likely China will run into a tariff of some kind. Run into it regardless of the presidential election outcome in Nov. 2024. Not kidding. It seems both major candidates, when holding the presidency, were and are fine with preventing product dumping by a trading partner that is _not_ in NAFTA 2.0 or has a "friends and family" trade arrangement like the US has with Japan, Australia, and a few others.

Well said, _very_ well said about the privacy loss using some of the convenience features of connectivity with smart TVs. Amen and amen on having a hard line (ethernet) from your TV to the router. TL;DR Of course the Alexa, Siri, hey-google kind of help is just as intrusive. Even your auto insurance is just as intrusive, if you have one of those tattletale devices that tells the insurer about the vehicle speed, location, etc. Your driving habits of a car are valid underwriting info, certainly. Yet today all the tattletale devices must have all sorts of access to your phone that is unnecessary for auto insurance underwriting. LIke what, I pretend Mr Wheaties asks? - Your activity ... your phone is with you and Bluetooth is on (so the tattletale works), yet does your insurer need to know you all of that? Not for underwriting, nope. However, that info is excellent info for a *marketing profile* they will collect, refine, and rent to 3rd party companies. - Your location 24/7/365 ... your phone's location more specifically. Well, if you're not driving and you're in your house asleep at zero dark thirty, why does the insurer need that info? With that they know you are probably asleep (phone hasn't moved and it's 4 AM), your car is OK (it's not Bluetooth-ing to your phone from where it is to where the car is parked), you're not doing anything (the phone itself knows it's in a dark room with no one looking at the screen, which means you're probably asleep). - Nearby devices ... why in the name of Alexander Graham Bell does the insurer need to know who you're hanging out with (specifically whose phone is nearby your phone)? They might have a good sounding reason, yet the real reason is (again) probably marketing info they can sell to 3rd party vendors. Not to the Rooskies or intelligence services, just to other companies. - With your location and activity, your insurer knows _where_ you buy groceries, go out to eat or party, what stores you go to, what entertainment venues you go to, etc. Anyway, our smart phones already tell companies a lot about us -- I guess our TVs are feeling left out and are trying to get involved as well.

OpenAI listing the rationale for firing Altman -- actually _not_ listing the rationale -- is curious. [8:30] [edit] The announcement was official, so presumably several sets of eyeballs went over the official message to tune up the statement. What they crafted was a list of what Altman *wasn't* fired for. I wonder what the the real reasons were.

Bingo on the logistical tail of iPhone (and all smart phone) manufacturing. Great job on getting the VO nailed down. [edit] TL;DR in a smart phone there are probably 1200-ish different parts, from plastic buttons to that M1 chip, each part with it's own manufacturing supply chain so the phones can be assembled for final manufacturing. This tail is as delicate and narrow as possible for quality & cost considerations. Put another way, this logistical tail is breakable and the separate parts are single-sourced in many cases (read: a huge logistical risk, no back up, no Plan B). >> As China's demography unwinds >> As it's energy sourcing is more and more delicate (70%-ish of it's energy comes from the Mid-East on the longest journey of oil shipping on the planet) >> As it's Enron-style financial system clogs up... ... manufacturing in China will also unwind. In 10 years (2033) China is unlikely to be the world's workshop as it has been for decades. The decline is already visible. Somebody tell Apple, please.

WOW! ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT TEACHING VIDEO! THANK YOU! I've worked in educational leadership for decades; and I now educate very deeply in health, addictions, healing, nutrition, neuroplasticity and plasma energies, with a very strongly focused specialism - via prolonged deep lived experience - in trauma-informed 'rebirth' after emotional disintegration, with significant reference to Dabrowski's Theory of Positive Disintegration, and the subsequent work of Dabrowski's main successor, William 'Bill' Tillier. Bill Tillier's paper on 'realities' at the 1996 Dabrowski Congress is embedded in my 'Bill Tillier' Substack, with references to other aligned profound original work on brain energies; notably Robert Temple (plasma energies), Sharon-Drew Morgen (how to rewire our own neural circuitry, and teach others - new book 'How?' to be published Sept 2023), and my own 'Theory Of Infinite Universes, all inside our heads' on which I exchanged ideas in June 2020 with 2019 Physics Nobel Prize-winner Jim Peebles, who agreed with me that there is no beginning nor end of time. There is only 'now' is my firm belief, and this aligns with ancient and aboriginal wisdoms about diet and lifestyle, outdoors living and connecting with nature, barefoot earthing, sunshine and water, optimism, laughter, dancing, singing - especially 'live' unplugged 'sessions' music - and the merging of cybernetics with love; yin and yang, karma, and much else. We are all 'one' with everything, and compassionate fearlessness is IMHO and experience, is the key to peace, forgiveness, transcendence, and abundance, via the energies of the conscious and subconscious/unconscious - individual and collective. Artificial Intelligence can't do love, zeitgeist, dreams nor energies of the soul. Euphoria is coming, faster and bigger than at any time in the human history that we imagine to be our realities. It's happening! Infinite love from Alan Chapman, Leicestershire UK, co-founder, LiveWildLiveFree and founder AlanChapman, which you'll find my via RudeAngel account, and Substack in my name and also 'infinite universes'. THANK YOU!

Hackers demo how they were able take over satellites [3:11] -- non mil ones for the demo, thankfully. JeezLouise, what could possibly go wrong there? Add in autonomous EVs or ICEs in a large metro area, season it with a major entertainment event (within the locale) or major political gathering ... nah, it'll be fine. [edit] That's worrisome, certainly. I'm more worried about some sh^tbird weaponizing a couple hacked satellites, intentionally causing them to crash into each other. IOW starting the Kessler Syndrome to happen *very quickly.* (Enough sats hit each other causing a debris spread, which runs into other sats causing more debris, etc etc ... and that cascades pathologically.) We end up with very few, if any, functioning sats and that particular orbital range (LEO, MEO, or HEO) is unusable for the next few hundred years. What's that do to GPS, autonomous vehicles, and everything else depending on data to/from a network of satellites in very predictable orbital paths?

Hi, thank you for the video. I actually downloaded VLC a couple years ago I think. I tried to download an updated version just now but got some kind of an error message. Everything's fine until I do the right click on "open auto play" but it doesn't show an option to "Play DVD movie with VLC Player". I'm only able to play the audio. I have Windows 10 on a Lenovo PC. I'm not terribly technically savvy so it's all a bit of a struggle for me (old lady that I am). I had bought an old used Insignia DVD player with a rechargeable battery from Good Will that was working for a while and now it just says "no disc" whenever I try to play anything so gave up on that. Thanks.

Thank you for the thumbnail sketch on how Napster worked >> how cloud and crypto work. That's a useful generalization that helps my small mind; and of course you're "...taking a few liberties" in that low-res outline. That helps me understand a small amount about _how_ crypto works. Crypto itself still puzzles me from the POV of individual economic decision-making: It has no inherent value (like something on the commodities market). Central banks don't trade it or use it as store of value for domestic trade *at scale* and certainly not by any international banking node of noticeable size where they do make global trade smoother. [Again I'll say *at scale* .] Crypto is not liquid -- highly not liquid. Individuals cannot use it for small daily purchases -- which would be useful and ease crypto's path into wider acceptance. [edit] IOW I can't buy lunch with it or order something and pay for it via online shopping. At least not from companies' whose names we all recognize. Perhaps if I voluntarily accept a lot of risk by straying from large well-known online purveyors I could use it. I infer that shopping with crypto narrows the range of vendors I choose from as well as the range of products I might buy. . Crypto is the coin of the realm for the ransomware sh^tbirds. IIRC it was originally talked about by most folks as being government-proof, theft-proof, etc. Yes, though with a blockchain transaction, isn't every single transaction from User A to User B to User Z irremovably documented? Anyway -- I'm not trying to be a downer about this -- just sharing my ignorance of crypto from the point of view of an individual who can understand how and why fiat money and central banks operate in the daily business of millions of people. I'm not saying that system is better. Rather, it's more flexible and works for most people from their early adult lives -- people work, raise families and need to buy things and eventually retire. Yes, I am aware of how some fiat currencies/central banks do _not_ work when the banking system is within a country with breathtakingly bad domestic monetary policies. No names, but some of those countries' names rhyme with words like "bargen-teena" "wuh-shuh" "the middle kingdom" etc.

App development section: "...then, we receive updates, or let's hope we receive updates." [3:26] Amen. Is that when we users start wondering, hey, is this a *bug* or a *feature* ? - Good stuff on app development -- concise and informative. - Good on Tesla for having the rest of the industry join them in the attempt to standardize EV charging nodes. - Good luck with daylight savings time. . TL;DR To be blunt, I do not care if we continue to use the savings-time changes return to standard time. Organizations trying to sync activities around the world use UTC/Greenwich Mean Time and have their watches or phones keep up with the "where-when" for individuals working those tasks. Old school method? In your head count forward or backward from GMT.

The 90-9-1 rule is an interesting stat. In the social media arena, I wonder how much of the topical buzz _and_ conflict grow out of a small percentage [9 to 90] of a very small percentage [1 to 9] of users. And yet steer conversation and commentary in a particular direction. Just a thought.

"FB is just trying to be helpful, not stalker-ish" (2:19) ...and there's a difference between helpful and stalker-ish in the cold equations of Facebook's algo? Doubt it. Not that FB or Guulag are stalking you _with human stalker intent_ , rather, in the machine-learning "mind" of either, the activities of being helpful/stalker-ish are indistinguishable. Recognizing a clear line of difference between those two concepts is quite human. An algorithm isn't. [My US$ 0.02]
